Happy Tuesday! These Tuesdays are my favorite because I get to share a class I love and send it out into the world. Today’s class, Fantastic Flourishes, is no different. Being the obsessed-with-lettering kind of person I am, flourishes have a big place in my heart. If you’ve ever wanted to draw better flourishes, integrate them into letters or create hand lettered layouts with beautiful flourishing, this class was made for you. The class is packed with helpful guides, practice sheets, cheat sheets and more. Get all the details and see the full class trailer below!

This coming Monday, I’ll be publishing my next Skillshare class, Lettering Layouts. Since we went over typing on a path in Illustrator on Tuesday, I thought it’d be fun to mix the concept of custom baselines with purely typographic layouts. The results are pretty incredible and can for sure seem intimidating to try yourself. This week, on top of a roundup of 6 stunning typographic layouts, I’m breaking each layout down. By doing this, it’s far easier to see how each layout was achieved and how you can begin incorporating similar methods, techniques and design elements into your own layouts moving forward. If you’ll be joining me in Monday’s class, this post is a big head start. Read on for more!

This blog is a little overdue for a freebie! With the templates I create, I typically draw out a bunch of different elements, scan them in, then clean them up – very much the same process I use for vectorizing hand lettering. There are always some elements I wish I had used, but they never quite make it onto the design. This week’s freebie are some of my favorite hand drawn dividers that I plan on using for something, but rather than leave them sitting in a folder, I’m giving all 10 of them to you! Each divider comes as an ai, eps + psd file for versions of Illustrator and Photoshop, CS3 or newer. Read on for the download link!

Driving through our neighborhood on the way home Friday night, I couldn’t help but notice the vibe in our subdivision had changed…holiday lights were going up! I love this time of year; it just felt like it came sooner than usual this year. To ring in the start of the holiday decorating season, in this week’s tutorial we create a string of vector holiday lights, then create a pattern brush out of them for unlimited hang-them-where-and-how-long-you-want-them use 🙂 Let’s get started!

Happy Tuesday! This week’s freebie is a 3 pack of hand drawn decorative vector frames – perfect for invitations, fancy names + information, table numbers and seating cards. Download includes the three pictured below as an ai + eps file for versions of Illustrator, CS3 or newer, as well as a psd file with each frame as a separate smart object, also for CS3 or newer.
