I’m realllly excited about this week’s Procreate tutorial! Little polaroids are some of my favorite things to make – you’ll definitely notice that if you’ve spent any time on my site. Now that Procreate has the quick shape tool, they’re super simple to make! In this week’s tutorial, I’m sharing how to create peeling polaroids in Procreate by applying 3 different shadow types. I’m even sharing my method for applying a trendy shadow on the top, too! Read on to see it all!

After I created this tutorial, I received a few questions about how to create pattern brushes with corners in Illustrator. If you ever need your pattern brush applied to a 90º angle, you’ll need to implement custom corners. Here’s the kicker, though; Illustrator CC makes corners super easy when the pattern brush is geometric. When your pattern brush is hand drawn, there are extra considerations to make, so we’re covering them all in this week’s tutorial. Read on to create hand drawn pattern brushes with corners!

This week, I thought I’d go completely analog with a DIY watercolor ribbon Father’s Day card. I love taking handmade creations digital, but every now and then – especially for sentimental holidays, you can’t really beat 100% handmade 😉 With Father’s Day coming in less than a week, you’ll still have time to seal this in an envelope, stamp it up and get it in a mailbox in time. So, let’s get this card going; all the instructions, materials and full video are below!

It’s been a little while since I shared a freebie texture, so today I’m sharing some ink textures! I started using these rolled ink textures in my artwork a while ago, the most recent example being this one to show off Tuesday Script. I’ve even masked these into typography using the same method as watercolor typography for some really nice textured type results. If nothing else, they are sooooo fun to play around with and add that little extra handmade feel to any kind of artwork. The best part? Every texture comes as a vector ai file for versions of Illustrator, CS3 or newer PLUS every texture comes as a transparent png, so it’s cake to use with any other kind of software 😉 Preview images + download link below!

Happy Tuesday! This week’s tutorial comes to you courtesy of Lauren, who emailed me last week asking how to create a realistic paper cut out effect. With winter well on its way (my family in upstate NY has already had their first snowfall!), I thought a winter theme would work well with the effect. Do you remember these free hand drawn vector snowflakes from wayyy back? I thought it would be a good time to bring them back for this week’s tutorial and pair them with a more intricate snowflake to really show off the handmade look of this effect. I also happen to have a digital recycled paper pack and handmade paper pack which I thought would bring some nice authenticity to finish off the whole piece (pick up some free ones here). Read on to create your own!

Happy Thursday! So, today I’m doing something a little different..a written craft tutorial 🙂 I created a Happy Birthday block print a few months back to save a little dough on birthday cards this year (plus, who doesn’t love a hand made card better anyway?!), and I took process photos as I carved. I came across the process shots the other night and thought they’d be fun to share. Lucky timing too, if anyone wants to block print some holiday cards this year (wink, wink). The process is super simple and the final outcome has such a crafty, love-injected feel that just looking through the photos again makes me want to break out my carving tools 🙂 Photos, instructions + links to the products used all listed below!

Happy Tuesday! This Tuesday is one of my favorite Tuesdays because I’m spending it with my parents (haven’t seen them since Christmas)! They made the 17 hour trek from upstate NY to help me and Spence fix up some minor things that our new home’s inspection report found. So thankful in times like these for a dad with super handyman skills who likes to drive long distances 🙂 Anyway, in honor of things created + performed by hand, I present you with two awesome handmade paper patterns this week!
