Our daughter’s birthday is December 28th (she’ll be 4 this year!) and she knows as soon as ‘the leaves are off the trees and the lights are up’ it means her birthday is getting close 🥰 Spence and I never used to decorate right after Thanksgiving, but now that we’ve got a little one that the lights mean so much to, we’re on it like clockwork. Since we’ll be shivering on ladders in a few days, it felt only fitting to share that holiday tradition in tutorial form this week 🤩

It’s time for our final tutorial (no.6) in this year’s holiday series! But don’t worry – I still have a New Year’s design up my sleeve for next week 😉 Today, we’re creating holiday lights, surrounding them with evergreen elements and then making our bulbs and lettering glow! I’m labeling this an intermediate tutorial, but there are a few advanced skills thrown in, too, if you’re up for an extra challenge.

Welcome to week 5 of holiday hand lettering projects! If you missed the last four weeks, you can catch up here, here, here and here 😉 This is a 6 week lettering tutorial series with the goal of gaining new lettering tricks, learning about lettering supplies you might not have used before and creating something you can use/gift right away. Every week we build on the skills from the previous week, so if you need a refresher, be sure to rewatch any of the previous videos. Check back every Tuesday from now until December 12th for a new holiday themed lettering project! This week, we’ll create metallic watercolor lettering surrounded by strings of lights! Read on to see how!

Driving through our neighborhood on the way home Friday night, I couldn’t help but notice the vibe in our subdivision had changed…holiday lights were going up! I love this time of year; it just felt like it came sooner than usual this year. To ring in the start of the holiday decorating season, in this week’s tutorial we create a string of vector holiday lights, then create a pattern brush out of them for unlimited hang-them-where-and-how-long-you-want-them use 🙂 Let’s get started!
