I’ve had a few requests for advanced tutorials lately, so we’re closing out the year with my most advanced tutorial to date: complex ribbons! If you’re brand new to Procreate, you’ll want to take my free course before tackling this beauty. We’ll be combining selections, masking variations and depth effects, along with determining hierarchy within our ribbon folds. Even if you are a more advanced Procreate user, my hope is that you’ll still learn a few new tricks you can carry with you into the new year 😉

It’s Tuesday! Time for a new tutorial! This week, I’m sharing my method for intertwining elements using layer masking in Procreate. If you’ve already taken Procreate for Beginners and seen the LOOPY project, this tutorial will take your masking skills to the next level 🙂 In this video, we create a bunch of floral elements, then intertwine multiple elements on multiple layers. Within the past week, Procreate released their latest version, which allows you to add text! It’s been really fun playing around with the new feature and seeing how I’ll integrate text into future Procreate artwork. This week, I thought I’d share an easy way to create artwork with text, as well as sharing some masking tips, too. Read on for how to use text in Procreate!

One major change that came with Procreate’s last update was masking. It might not have seemed major if you aren’t familiar with masking, but it was actually a bigger deal than it probably got credit for. Masking essentially allows for a non-destructive workflow. What that means, is instead of erasing something you don’t need, then having to draw it back in if you change your mind, masking ‘hides’ the part you don’t want and you can bring back the original easily at any time. Pretty nice. You can check out how awesome masking is in Photoshop here and it actually works pretty similarly in Procreate. In this week’s tutorial, I’ll take you through the two most common lettering scenarios where I use masking in Procreate. Once you begin masking, you’ll see the immediate advantages and how much faster (and efficient) it makes creating and editing.

One of my favorite discoveries of the past year is a product called BRUSHO. It’s essentially concentrated, powdered watercolor, and it’s awesome. It took me some time to find the best process for using it with my DIY artwork, so in this week’s tutorial, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned! Skip all the troubleshooting/wasted material I went through and let’s create a Father’s Day card using BRUSHO together!

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, this week, we’re DIY’ing a hand lettered watercolor Mother’s Day card! My mom’s birthday is actually on Mother’s Day this year, so I had to think of something extra special 🙂 Cue masking fluid, brush pens, a watercolor effect and some lettering enhancements! In this week’s video, I share my trick for protecting your paint brush with masking fluid, how I cut down watercolor paper for greeting cards, use brush pens to create a watercolor texture and use regular lettering supplies to add final details. The other week on every-tuesday’s facebook page, Valarie asked how to replicate the texture seen on this ice cream cone. This week, I’m here to deliver the answer! In this tutorial, we’ll create our own halftone texture, then apply it to a similar ice cream cone to replicate the same effect. Happy Tuesday! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Spence, Nuna + I went low key + celebrated just the 3 of us together. After dinner, we spent the rest of the evening sipping blackberry rum fizzes, dipping italian herb bread in oil + vinegar we brought back from Sonoma + binge listening to Serial while Spence read coding tutorials + I doodled 🙂 ah, days off are the best!

But it’s back to the grind for now.. I’ve been thinking about fun holiday themed tutorials I could make this year and this was one of the first ones that came to mind. You can use it on greeting cards, e-cards, gift tags, wrapping paper – you name it! And you can use the same technique all year long.
