If you’re an every-tuesday email subscriber, you’re already aware my ebook on tips and advice for obtaining a full time graphic design job will become officially available later this month. In preparation ofΒ its launch, I wanted to dedicate this month’s Tuesdays to sharing portfolioΒ tips I’ve learned from my own experiences in a free portfolio tips video series. The first video will be next Tuesday’s post, but this week, I wanted to start things off by sharing my own graphic design story.
I’ve had a few comments and emails asking how I got started, how I knew graphic design was the right major for me, andΒ what I would tell people who might be on the fence about a career in graphic design (and if jobs are available for graphic designers) today. I sat down in front of my computer in a very non-typical/non-screen-only recording this week to answer all of those, so it could be like we were sitting down together, just having a conversation as friends. So here it is, from beginning to now, along withΒ someΒ tips I picked up onΒ the wayΒ π

This was great, Teela! Thank you for sharing. It’s really cool to hear about the journey of someone who is already established in the field. I love Every-Tuesday. You make break everything down so simple and make it easy to understand. Outside of being an insanely talented designer, you have a true teaching gift. You’re so good at it!
I’m so glad I stumbled upon you π Thanks for being so inspiring and helpful βΊοΈ

Teela: You are a true talent, which I can attest to first hand. Not only do you have a natural ability to communicate well and teach others, but you have the extraordinary graphic design skills to back it up. Anyone serious about learning graphic design needs to start by watching all of your videos. Well done!!!

Thank you for sharing your journey into graphic design. I will echo the others and add that you definitely have a special talent both in design and communicating. Thank you for sharing that with us and I wish you much success in your career! I have learned a lot from your tutorials. Although I’m a homeschooling SAHM right now and can’t really “dive in” the way I’d like to, I’m grateful for your channel which allows me to practice some techniques and “keep my feet wet,” so that in the future when my littles are bigger I can have a good place to jump back in from. Thanks again!

I’m currently finishing off my last quarters for Graphic Design and I’m glad I stumbled on your blog. I needed your boost of inspiration and motivation when it comes to looking for internships as I tend to get anxiety and having you discuss the issues just gives me enough hope to work through it. Thank you Teela π

You have been such a huge part of my graphic design journey, and though I haven’t yet made the official switch, I have made so much progress in my confidence and hand lettering. Thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge, it’s made such a big difference in my life (especially since I can’t imagine adding to my student loan debt). I just downloaded the ebook! Can’t wait to see where I am in 6 months and a year. Thanks again!
