It’s been far too long since I created a freebie outside of the monthly desktop wallpapers, so today that is changing! If you checked out Tuesday’s tutorial, we went over all of the settings to create any custom Photoshop brush you’d like. Today’s freebie puts those settings into practice and includes 2 dynamic Phototshop brushes for you to use at will, on anything you’d like. If you have a Wacom tablet, pressure settings for size variation are already built into each brush 🙂 If you don’t have a Wacom, no sweat – the size will vary randomly instead of based on pressure. Install instructions are also included so you can begin using both brushes right away (use with Photoshop, CS3 or newer). Preview images and download link below!

This week’s tutorial isn’t the sexiest thing ever, but it’s extremely useful if you work on multiple machines, need to share digital assets with clients + fellow designers, are a super organized person looking to be more digitally organized, or have an old computer you’re in constant fear will crap out on you at any moment. This one’s for you!

One thing’s for sure, if you’ve been designing for any length of time, a program has crashed on you at some point and when you reopen, things look a little different in the swatches, brushes and patterns department. If you never saved these digital assets pre-crash, they are lost (along with that pleasant mood you had 5 seconds before) in file purgatory.

In this week’s tutorial, we’ll dull the pain of lost assets by going over exactly how to save patterns and brushes in Illustrator and Photoshop so you’ll know where to find them if you ever need a reinstall, or if you just want to share them. Read on to see how!

This week’s freebie is a set of 10 hand drawn vector spider webs to add a little more creepy crawly to your Halloween designs this year. 😉 Set includes corner webs and full spider webs to make positioning, cropping and usage a piece of cake. A bonus couple of dangling spider vectors also included for good measure. 🙂 All vector elements are included as an ai, eps and psd file for versions of Illustrator and Photoshop, CS3 or newer!

Keeping with the brush/india ink theme this week, this week’s freebie is a pack of 20 vector brush textures! Add quick texture to portions of your artwork or use as dividers. To add a faux screenprinted edge effect quickly, apply a brush texture to each side of a color filled rectangle. All textures are 100% vector and can be used with any version of Illustrator or Photoshop, CS3 or newer. Preview below; ai, eps + psd included in the download!

Every evening after work, after our hour commute home, after we’re greeted by this little body of wiggles, we eat a quick snack, then head out on a mile walk in our subdivision. It’s my favorite part of every day, and the past two days it’s gotten even better. The humidity of the deep South is slowly departing and when there’s a slight breeze, the sun is setting and the temperature is perfect, I take it all in and am convinced it’s bliss. I’ve always looked at autumn as kind of depressing – leaves dying and impending winter storms – definitely derived from 20 years of severe winters in upstate New York. Even I am surprised how much my attitude towards fall has changed. Now it’s about apple cider, cinnamon brooms, cozy blankets, crisp breezes and that distinct, beautiful smell in the air. Thinking about how soon it’ll be here and the little glimpses I’ve felt on our walks this week, it was time to put together some autumn color schemes for season-specific artwork.

Have you ever run into a situation where you know adding a little – just a little bit – of subtle texture could take something you’ve done to the next level? This happens to me allll the time, which is why this week I want to give away a couple of vector mini grit textures. Each texture’s grittiness is on the smaller/finer side to work perfectly with more detailed artwork. And because they’re vector, no matter what you use em on, they’ll never lose resolution and can infinitely scale for any size you need them. Check out a few ways you can use them below!

If you’re throwing a BBQ or are in need of some summer get-together themed vector elements, this week’s freebie is a set of hand drawn BBQ vectors! Slap them on your homemade sauce and marinades, create some party coasters, rubber stamp them on napkins, or stick them in your facebook BBQ party invite. Whatever you use them for, you’ll be able to ring in summer better than all of your friends. 🙂 Read on for the free download link!

Get turned on with this week’s freebie! On and off, that is 😉 This freebie includes a set of 2 styles (flat + outline) of ui web + app toggle switches. The download includes a psd for versions of Photoshop, CS3 or newer with highly organized layers. Each toggle is 120px x 25px and can be used for anything you please, you just can’t sell em 🙂 Preview of on + off states for both styles at actual size below, enjoy!
