It’s Tuesday! This week, we’re drawing 3 different types of eucalyptus together 🌿 These are great supporting elements to use in bouquets and they’re all super simple to make 🙂 Even better? We’re using just 4 colors to make them and only one brush (my free monoweight brush). You can grab both of those for free in the Resource Library.
It’s the last Thursday in October, which means it’s time for your free November 2019 desktop wallpapers! This month’s wallpaper was entirely created in Procreate, with just the dates added in using Photoshop and my font, Miss Magnolia. I started drawing some leaves for this one, and then I just couldn’t stop! So here is a leafy explosion for November 😉 The lettering and doodles were both made using my ‘Mono Marker’ brush from my Font Lovers Procreate Lettering Brushes. For the dates, ‘R’ is for Thursday, to distinguish it from a same-sized Tuesday ‘T’ at a glance.
The download includes the November 2019 desktop wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any November in the future, too!
I’ve been breaking out my watercolors a bit more lately and have found myself painting a lot of autumn and winter themed illustrations. I thought I’d change things up a bit this week and share my method for painting an autumn watercolor branch. This is one of the first illustrations I learned how to paint and I love that there’s no pressure to get anything perfect. Add as many leaves, branches and organic curves as you’d like – there really is endless creative freedom here. We’ll go through the wet on dry technique, mix up custom pan set watercolors and talk about a few tips for painting leaves. This is the first Every-Tuesday watercolor painting tutorial – let me know if you’d like to see more in the future!
One week to go! I’m so excited (and counting down the days) to see my sister a week from today, who Spence and I will be celebrating with. Since we’re only a week out, I wanted to put together a few freebie Thanksgiving vectors for any last minute craft or design pieces you might be putting together. With November right around the weekend, it’s time for a new desktop wallpaper! Here in Georgia, all of the green has officially transitioned into oranges and browns and sidewalks carry a little rustle of leaves with every step. I’m really enjoying the cooler breezes, the absence of humidity, and I’m soaking in every fall walk we can squeeze in before I’m bundled head to toe 🙂
I decided to go a little ‘harvest’ themed with these November desktop wallpapers, incorporating the geometric feather we created in Illustrator this week, along with a hand drawn leafy stem from the leaves + flourishes pack. Every evening after work, after our hour commute home, after we’re greeted by this little body of wiggles, we eat a quick snack, then head out on a mile walk in our subdivision. It’s my favorite part of every day, and the past two days it’s gotten even better. The humidity of the deep South is slowly departing and when there’s a slight breeze, the sun is setting and the temperature is perfect, I take it all in and am convinced it’s bliss. I’ve always looked at autumn as kind of depressing – leaves dying and impending winter storms – definitely derived from 20 years of severe winters in upstate New York. Even I am surprised how much my attitude towards fall has changed. Now it’s about apple cider, cinnamon brooms, cozy blankets, crisp breezes and that distinct, beautiful smell in the air. Thinking about how soon it’ll be here and the little glimpses I’ve felt on our walks this week, it was time to put together some autumn color schemes for season-specific artwork.
I have been working well into the wee morning hours this past week preparing for my new Skillshare class coming early next week. I don’t want to give it entirely away, but there are some pretty vector elements + watercolor textures involved! I’m sooo excited about the class I wanted to give a tiny sneak peek of what I’ve been spending all that time on! Since vector elements play a big role in the class, I created a monster set of over 100 hand drawn vector leaves and flourishes. This set was created for people who may not want to spend as many hours as I did making them 🙂 Today I want to give away 5 of them for free!
