My friends from Archer & Olive got in touch recently to tell me about their line of Procreate assets! Once I saw their calendar stamps, I knew I had to add them to a design, so this week, we’re creating a digital weekly planner, all in Procreate. We’re even putting it into a spiral bound notebook we’ll make from scratch, too!
If you’re a list maker, doodler or layout lover, chances are you’re familiar with bullet journaling. Now that we’re in the new year, what better way to kick things off than with a bullet journal weekly planner design?! While bullet journaling is traditionally all hand drawn, this week I want to share my spin on it using Adobe Illustrator. This way, if you’re in need of a quick design, you can reuse work already made and print off layouts in a snap. To celebrate 2019, I thought it’d be fun to ring in the new year with a resolutions checklist in Illustrator, but with a little spin to it 🙂 Instead of just a list of goals – or a list of empty lines staring you down – this one is all about action! New Year’s Eve is less than a week away! To celebrate, I thought I’d cheers you Every-Tuesday style with a couple of cocktail glasses created in Adobe Illustrator. This tutorial is very doable if you’re a beginner, but the pace is a little quick, so just a head’s up. We’ll be in Illustrator CC for this one since we’re using the live corners option for smooth contours on our glasses. If you’re not using CC, this can still be done, but you’ll want to visit your appearance palette > stylize > round corners. Ready to get started? Full video + all the colors used are below!
2016 was a really intense work year for both Spence and I. I sat in front of my computer more than I didn’t, but it led to a lot of self growth which I’m immensely thankful for. While I hope (and plan!) to pull myself away from my desk more this year, I wanted to share the ways I hit my design + lettering goals in 2016 and steps I’ll take in 2017. I hope this can be a motivator if you’re just digging into lettering or graphic design, but you aren’t quite sure where to begin.
Happy New Year! To celebrate, I thought we could create some wintery geometric snowflakes in Adobe Illustrator this week! We’re definitely starting to feel the chill of winter here in Georgia. The main reason for my move from upstate NY to Georgia in my early twenties was specifically to avoid the harsh winters. I’ll take being too warm over being too cold any day. Regardless, snowflakes *do* make being that cold worth it. If you saw this tutorial awhile back, we’re applying similar techniques, but creating something completely different with them 🙂 Read on to see it all!
Somehow, it’s already the last Thursday in December, which means it’s time for your free January 2017 desktop wallpapers! This month’s wallpaper was created with FineTec watercolors using a small Pentel waterbrush on Astrobrights (Eclipse Black) cardstock. It was then photographed with a DSLR by Spence and brought into Photoshop where he adjusted color + vibrancies. After that, I resized the artwork and added dates within Photoshop, making it ready for use. So, this little guy is a labor of true wallpaper love 🙂 The download includes the wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any January in the future, too!

Just wanted to post a little note wishing everyone a happy 2015! Our 2015, well.. our Christmas started off a little rocky. On Friday the 19th, our office held its annual Christmas party and we were excited leaving the office that night to begin our holiday vacation (we hardly take any time during the year so we can take extra time for our families during the holidays). The next day (the 20th), Spence and I were planning to hit the road at 4am to tackle the 17 hour road trip to my parents’ house in upstate NY. When we got home, we were greeted by our excited dog, Nuna. She was full of anticipatory wiggles and we played around with her as usual. We went to the bedroom to begin putting our suitcases together, still playing around with her when she went under my feet and I clumsily fell trying to avoid falling right on her or hitting the laundry basket right next to her. I landed directly on the left side of my left hand and Spence and I both heard a big crack/snap as I hit the floor.
Happy Tuesday! And Happy Veteran’s Day! My father is a veteran (Marines), both of my grandfathers were veterans (both Navy), and my brother is currently an Air Force pilot, so I have lots to be proud of and grateful for today 🙂 Spence and I actually just got back from California visiting my brother, his wife, and my brand new nephew (born in July) who made me an Aunt for the first time. I’ll be posting a few pics soon from our too-short-of-a-trip. With family on the mind and knowing I’ll be seeing my family again soon for the holidays, this week’s freebie is a set of 2 hand lettered holiday invitation printables.
