Paint a Floral Love Letter in Procreate

This week is our most advanced project of them all, so if you’re just starting out with Procreate, be sure to check out vid 1 + 2 first. In this tutorial, we’ll be creating a sealed floral love letter surrounded by flat style forget me not flowers. We’ll build our envelope from scratch by utilizing a sketch layer with drawing guides, then layer on color and elements for a final piece that is embellished with lettering.

Happy April tomorrow!

Everything felt very non-stop sprint throughout all of March. Most of it was due to my ocd with getting the ebook as perfect as possible. If I didn’t become a designer, I would have been a writer, so I naturally spend more time than I probably should carefully crafting sentences and evaluating word choices. But! It’s finally out into the world and I’ve returned to breathing once again 🙂 (I made a free preview of the book available yesterday! If you’re interested, click here to download it!)

I’m really looking forward to diving back into design tutorials this coming month. It seems like I’ve been away from them longer than 4 weeks and I’ve missed putting them together. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of prep on an upcoming Intro to Photoshop class. This will be the best quality course I’ve ever done (a real production team-quality!) and it’s hard to keep in the excitement for it, but I’ll have many more details as the month goes on 🙂 I’m also planning my next Skillshare class this month, so if you’re on the every-tuesday email list, keep an eye out because free spots to the class will be heading your way soon!

Create a Sophisticated Hand Addressed Envelope

There’s nothing quite like receiving a beautifully hand addressed snail mailed card, note or correspondence. There’s also nothing quite like creating that very same mailbox surprise for someone else.

I looooove hand addressing envelopes in all kinds of different styles (suited for the person and the occasion, of course). It’s one of my most favorite things to letter and I can’t believe I haven’t created any video on it yet! That’s all about to change this week and next week with a two part envelope address lettering series! We’ll start this week with sophisticated lettering for more formal notes (for delivery to traditional folks or for classy occasions) and we’ll cover playful and whimsical lettering next week (reserved for the hippest of family, friends and events). Vday Envelope Prep: Lovely Letters

With holiday “thank you” card writing winding down and Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’ve been making a ton of trips to the stationery aisle at Target, bouncing back and forth between Valentine’s card ideas for my friends. Last year, it was a batch of homemade cards with funny pick-up lines handwritten on them; the year before that, individually selected cards from Paper Source; and the year before that, I actually gave out Valentine’s (yes, like the ones you’d find in a 3rd grade classroom). This year, with so many of my friends living out of town now (and, therefore, cards needing to be mailed), I thought 2016 would be the perfect opportunity to try my hand at envelope calligraphy!
