Welcome to week 6 of holiday hand lettering projects! If you missed the last five weeks, scroll below to click on links to all of them! This 6 week lettering tutorial series is wrapping up this week! The goal of the series was to gain new lettering tricks, learn about lettering supplies you might not have used before and create something you can use/gift right away. Each week we built on skills from the previous weeks, so if you need a refresher, be sure to rewatch any of the prior videos. It’s the last Thursday in November, which means it’s time for your free December 2017 desktop wallpapers! This month, I jumped back on the iPad to create a winter themed lettering doodle. I first sketched the lettering on paper, took a photo of it, then used it as a template in Procreate. The foil textures (gold lettering, silver snow) are from my Procreate Metallic Texture Kit and the entire wallpaper was illustrated/lettered with default Procreate brushes. The final illustration was exported as a PSD into Photoshop, where I added the dates using my font, Miss Magnolia. ‘R’ is for Thursday, to distinguish it from a same-sized Tuesday ‘T’ at a glance. 

The download includes the December 2017 desktop wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any December in the future, too!

I’ve been breaking out my watercolors a bit more lately and have found myself painting a lot of autumn and winter themed illustrations. I thought I’d change things up a bit this week and share my method for painting an autumn watercolor branch. This is one of the first illustrations I learned how to paint and I love that there’s no pressure to get anything perfect. Add as many leaves, branches and organic curves as you’d like – there really is endless creative freedom here. We’ll go through the wet on dry technique, mix up custom pan set watercolors and talk about a few tips for painting leaves. This is the first Every-Tuesday watercolor painting tutorial – let me know if you’d like to see more in the future!

It’s the last Thursday in October, which means it’s time for your free November 2017 desktop wallpapers! This month, I decided to jump on the iPad to create a fall themed illustration/doodle explosion wallpaper 🙂 November is hand lettered with my own custom Procreate brush (all illustrations were created with that same texture brush) and the dates are set in my newest font, Skinny Jeans (caps style). The final illustration was exported out of Procreate as a psd, where it was slightly edited (subtle watercolor background texture added) and then combined and resized with the dates.

The download includes the November 2017 desktop wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any November in the future, too!

It’s the last Thursday in January, which means it’s time for your free February 2017 desktop wallpapers! This month’s wallpaper was created with a Micron 05 (.45mm), scanned in and vectorized in Illustrator. I cleaned up my vectors using my iPad Pro + Astropad app (here’s how I do that). I then colorized and sized it in Photoshop using my Glitz+ Glam Kit as well as the watercolor patterns from my Watercolor Texture Kit Vol. 3. Finally, the dates were added in (the ‘R’s’ stand for Thursday so as not to be confused with Tuesday). Yep, not the quickest process, but I love making em 😉

The download includes the wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any February in the future, too!

Somehow, it’s already the last Thursday in December, which means it’s time for your free January 2017 desktop wallpapers! This month’s wallpaper was created with FineTec watercolors using a small Pentel waterbrush on Astrobrights (Eclipse Black) cardstock. It was then photographed with a DSLR by Spence and brought into Photoshop where he adjusted color + vibrancies. After that, I resized the artwork and added dates within Photoshop, making it ready for use. So, this little guy is a labor of true wallpaper love 🙂  The download includes the wallpapers in two common resolutions: 1280x1024px and 1920x1080px, with and without dates. I’ve left the year off of the ‘no-dates’ versions, so you can use it for any January in the future, too!

Piggybacking off of last week’s tutorial, this week we’re creating a holiday postcard in Adobe Illustrator! We’ll be using the free vectors from the holiday vector pack, so be sure to grab those if you haven’t already. Today is extra exciting, because I just released my newest font Espresso Roast, which we’ll be using, as well. It’s a font trio, so you get an all caps version, a script version and a symbols font. Welcome to the first holiday tutorial of the season! To kick things off, I thought it would be fun to create custom holiday gift wrap in Adobe Illustrator. Since gift wrap is essentially a repeating pattern, we’ll be walking through all of the steps of a seamless pattern using the pattern tool. Be sure to pick up last week’s free holiday vectors to follow along exactly! This pattern tutorial is a little different; not only will we create a seamless swatch, I’ll also share how to apply any background color to your pattern quickly (without re-entering the pattern tool)! Once our pattern is complete, we’ll export it and use an online service to upload and customize our gift wrap. By the end of the video, you’ll have everything you need to create your pattern and also get your custom holiday gift wrap printed for real! Everything you need included below!
