I’ve had numerous requests recently for a vid explaining how I create my color palettes, so that’s what we’re talking about this week! This is a big topic since there are so many different ways to create harmonious color palettes. This video focuses on my favorite go-to method which I’ve found to be pretty fail safe. You may not have seen this method before, so I hope it’s one you’ll enjoy and continue to use! 🎨
When I first started using Procreate, I just selected the colors I needed at the time and went on my merry way. Once I became more comfortable with the program, accessing quick, harmonious color palettes dramatically changed (and improved) the feel of all of my artwork moving forward. Spending the time to experiment with and decide on the right color combos became increasingly more time consuming, though. Thinking about how I choose color palettes for my graphic design artwork, I realized I could utilize the same tools, but in a different way using Procreate. In this video, I’ll share how I now put together quick color palettes in Procreate in a matter of minutes. Once you see how easy it is, I promise, you’ll never look back!

There are many times I find myself needing quick color palettes in Adobe Illustrator, where I just need something beautiful that fits the mood. Adobe Color’s website has always been the perfect help for me whenever I’ve been in a color pinch. If you’re a Creative Cloud subscriber, it couldn’t be easier to grab a color palette, tweak it and start using it directly in Illustrator. Here’s how!

Marissa has been helping me out behind the scenes and today she’s going to share some winter color palettes to inspire your upcoming holiday designs. I hope you’ll find them as useful as I have!
Every evening after work, after our hour commute home, after we’re greeted by this little body of wiggles, we eat a quick snack, then head out on a mile walk in our subdivision. It’s my favorite part of every day, and the past two days it’s gotten even better. The humidity of the deep South is slowly departing and when there’s a slight breeze, the sun is setting and the temperature is perfect, I take it all in and am convinced it’s bliss. I’ve always looked at autumn as kind of depressing – leaves dying and impending winter storms – definitely derived from 20 years of severe winters in upstate New York. Even I am surprised how much my attitude towards fall has changed. Now it’s about apple cider, cinnamon brooms, cozy blankets, crisp breezes and that distinct, beautiful smell in the air. Thinking about how soon it’ll be here and the little glimpses I’ve felt on our walks this week, it was time to put together some autumn color schemes for season-specific artwork.
Did you know the 21st was the first day of Summer? 4 days ago, the world’s position said ‘I grant you Summer’ and we here in the US said, ‘why, thank you. I accept.’
Maybe that was just me.
I moved to Savannah, Georgia in 2006 to finish my undergrad at SCAD but also to escape the 6 month winters (that’s not a joke) Upstate NY so generously gifted me the previous 20 years. I grew a special love for summer waiting for it to come, while I shoveled snow every October through March. So, summer and I go way back, and even though summers are a bajillion times more intense in the South (now Atlanta) than I ever experienced in the North, it’s something I look forward to every single year.
