One of Spring’s first cues here in the south are moths flying around porch lights in the evenings. This sent me down a rabbit hole of ideas and searching through pages of moth photography 😂There are just.soooo.many! And many beautiful ones I had never seen before. Instead of just illustrating a moth, this week, we’re adding a little doodle magic and lots of fun, gritty texture. ✨
Last week I mentioned we’d be creating something fun with Polaroid stamps this week and here it is! Today, we’ll be making flat style Spring florals intertwined with a Polaroid photo frame and finishing it off with hand lettering ✨
I’ve had quite a few friends celebrate spring birthdays lately and it occurred to me that having a spring-themed illustration for those occasions would have been so handy! So if you have yet to celebrate a spring birthday, already have, or need something to send a loved one’s way, this week’s vid is for you 😉
Spence and I love taking morning walks on our country road and the sides of the road have recently become covered with different wildflowers! I’ve been so inspired by these walks, wondering what I’ll spot next. When thinking about this week’s tutorial, I couldn’t get them off my mind, so today I have a messy spring wildflower bouquet for you! I grabbed a source photo as a base and in the video, you’ll see how easy it is to manipulate that base and make something original from it, messy details and all 😉
It’s Tuesday! This week, we’re drawing some spring florals and putting them into a frosted glass vase, all in Procreate! We’ll start by utilizing the symmetry feature in Procreate to make our vase, apply some texture to the glass with a layer mask, add some dimensional and supporting flowers, then finish it all off with some lettering. As always, the color palette is free and we’re using my free monoweight brush for the majority of the design. We also use a default Procreate texture brush for the vase and my Round Marker brush from my Font Lovers brush set for the lettering.
I remember sitting in my Color Theory 2 class at SCAD (12 years ago!) and we were given an assignment we had to use gouache for. ‘Gouache?’ I thought, “Can’t be that different from acrylics, can it?”
It was the first time I had ever heard of it, let alone had any knowledge of how to use it. Since sitting in that classroom that day, I learned that 1. yes, it is definitely different than acrylics and 2. it’s actually pretty amazing.
In this week’s tutorial, I’m taking you through gouache basics – how to mix colors, water ratios + what makes it so amazing to work with. Together, we’ll paint leafy gouache letters (or shapes!) that can be used for wall art, stationery or gifts! Read on to see it all!

This month, I wanted to do an explosion of foliage since that’s how it has felt here in Georgia. Everything grows so fast this time of year! All of the lettering + doodles were made using my free Procreate Monoweight Brush (available in the Resource Library). In the US, Mother’s Day falls on May 12th this year. After giving birth to our daughter on December 28th, this will be my first Mother’s Day as a mom!
